Hemicyonidae, or Hemicyoninae, is an extinct group of so-called "dog-bears", literally "Half Dog" (Greek: "hemi-kuôn"), bear-like carnivoran living in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia during the Oligocene through Miocene epochs 33.9–5.3 Ma, existing for approximately . They are classified by different authors either as a separate family〔McKenna, Malcolm C., and Bell, Susan K. 1997. ''Classification of Mammals Above the Species Level.'' Columbia University Press, New York, 631 pp. ISBN 0-231-11013-8〕 or as a subfamily of bears.
