Heukelum is a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Lingewaal, and lies about 8 km northeast of Gorinchem. It received city rights in 1391. In 2001, the town of Heukelum had 1967 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.37 km², and contained 744 residences.〔Statistics Netherlands (CBS), (''Bevolkingskernen in Nederland 2001'' ). (Statistics are for the continuous built-up area).〕 The statistical area "Heukelum", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 2210.〔Statistics Netherlands (CBS), (''Statline: Kerncijfers wijken en buurten 2003-2005'' ). As of 1 January 2005.〕 Heukelum was a separate municipality until 1986, when it became part of Vuren.
