It has been used by the military in smoke compositions, such as base-eject smoke munitions (smoke grenades). ==Manufacture== Hexachloroethane is a byproduct of many industrial chlorination processes.〔 It is currently being manufactured directly in India.〔 The overall reaction is shown below.
