The ''Hochwächter'', literally "High Guard", was an American German language newspaper published in Cincinnati, Ohio. The paper was established by German political activists who fled the German states after the failed revolution of 1848. In its early years, the paper was intensely anti-monarchist and opposed to the Catholic Church, which it viewed as supporting the ''ancien regime''. The paper was active in stirring up feelings against Cardinal Gaetano Bedini's visit to Cincinnati that led to the Riot of 1853.〔''The visit of Archbishop Gaetano Bedini to the United States of America: June 1853-February 1854,'' James Connelly, Editrice Pontificia Università Gregoriana, 1960, p. 98.〕〔''Catholicism and American Freedom,'' John McGreevy Norton and Co., New York 2003, p. 25.〕 Carl Otto Reventlow became editor in 1857. ==See also== *''Cincinnati Volksfreund'' *''Der Wahrheitsfreund'', a Catholic German newspaper in Cincinnati *''Cincinnati Volksblatt'' 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Hochwächter」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
