It is the headquarters of the Hosur taluk of Krishnagiri district. It is located about south east of Bangalore, north west of Krishnagiri, the district headquarters and west of Chennai, the state capital. Hosur is known for its manufacturing industries and is considered as gateway to Karnataka state as it is becoming major satellite town of Bangalore. Hosur assembly constituency is part of Krishnagiri Lok Sabha constituency.
