Iodotyrosine deiodinase
Iodotyrosine deiodinase also known as iodotyrosine dehalogenase 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ''IYD'' gene.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 url = http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=389434 )〕 It helps scavenge iodine by removing it from iodinated tyrosines, after these are produced when thyroid hormones that have been broken down as metabolites from their double-tyrosine residue structure.
Unlike the other deiodinases (the iodothyronine deiodinases), that remove iodine only from iodinated thyroid hormones while these are still in their double-tyrosine residue form, the iodotyrosine deiodinases remove iodine from iodinated tyrosine as a single amino acid residue. Also, unlike the iodothyronine deiodinases, the tyrosine deiodinase does not use selenium in the active site.

Iodotyrosine deiodinase facilitates iodide salvage in thyroid by catalyzing deiodination of mono- and diiodotyrosine, the halogenated byproducts of thyroid hormone production.〔
