Iodotyrosine deiodinase
Iodotyrosine deiodinase also known as iodotyrosine dehalogenase 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ''IYD'' gene.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 url = http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=389434 )〕 It helps scavenge iodine by removing it from iodinated tyrosines, after these are produced when thyroid hormones that have been broken down as metabolites from their double-tyrosine residue structure. Unlike the other deiodinases (the iodothyronine deiodinases), that remove iodine only from iodinated thyroid hormones while these are still in their double-tyrosine residue form, the iodotyrosine deiodinases remove iodine from iodinated tyrosine as a single amino acid residue. Also, unlike the iodothyronine deiodinases, the tyrosine deiodinase does not use selenium in the active site. == Function ==
Iodotyrosine deiodinase facilitates iodide salvage in thyroid by catalyzing deiodination of mono- and diiodotyrosine, the halogenated byproducts of thyroid hormone production.〔
