The famous Lord Muruga temple (Thirumalai kovil) is near to Ilathur. It is also near the town of Shencottah. Ilathur is also spelled as Elathur. The famous Madhunadeshwarar temple is located on the banks of a lovely lake. This temple's Shiva Linga is believed to have been created by the Saint Agasthya under an old Tarmarind tree which had a huge Bees nest and the linga over a periord had honey dripping on it..Hence the name Madhunadeshwarar.. the Tarmarind tree is still inside the temple.. This temple was restored recently.
