Jawyshyghr According to ibn Fadlan, the Jawyshyghr was an official in the Khazar government under the command of the Khagan Bek. Ibn Fyadlan did not describe the duties of this officer. Douglas M. Dunlop hypothesized that the name derives from the phrase ''Chavush Uyghur'' or "Marshal of the Uyghurs"; however, other scholars have disputed this theory. In the Levant, during the rule of the Ottoman Empire, the local police chief was often called a "jaweesh." ==Sources==
