Jinjang is a town in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Jinjang comprises Jinjang Utara (North) and Jinjang Selatan (South). The name Jinjang is believed to be named by the migrants from China migrated to Malaya to work in lead mining which they derived from the name of famous cities in Himalayan Mountain range of Muslim city of Xinjiang and the name of Tibet pronounced in mandarin which are often associated with buddhish mytical city of Shambhala with the hope for special powers, and to bring prosperity to the people. The township is also by the Mountain range called Titiwangsa. Then a town was established as part of the British strategy called the Briggs' Plan during the Malayan Emergency. The strategy aimed to forcibly relocate Malayan people, particularly ethnic Chinese, to isolate them from the Communists' influence. Jinjang was by far the largest of the relocation communities (called "New Villages") on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, at 445 hectares (4.45 km2), nearly twice the size of the other New Villages combined. It used to be known for the prevalence of gangsterism during the 1970s to late 1980's but is now a largely residential area. Along with the township of Kepong, Jinjang has been particularly prone to outbreaks of dengue fever,〔''Asiaweek'', Volume 15, Issues 1-26 (1989).〕 and the outbreak of the 1973 dengue epidemic which resulted in 969 reported cases and killed 54 people was traced to Jinjang.〔BioSciences Information Service of Biological Abstracts (1980): ''Abstracts of entomology'', Volume 11.〕 There is also a famous tale about the mining where it is now known as Taman Perdana Lake Garden or Metropolitan Kepong Park famous for kite flying enthusiasts. When the mining owner was having dinner with his close friends which include Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong. While the onwer together with the friends was chatting about their visions or ambitions for the future, Lim informed them that he would like to have a luxurious mah jong club or (gambling club) on top of one of the mountain range while pointing his finger behind Batu Caves (Ten Caves). All his friends laughed and replied that all they know Lim can even open the club on top of the clouds. Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, actually did it not long after the event by establishing Genting Highlands and Genting Group.
