Jivitputrika (''also'' Jiutiya ''or'' Jiitiya) ((サンスクリット:जीवित्पुत्रिका)) ((ヒンディー語:जिउतिया)) ((ネパール語:जितिया)) is a festival in which ''Nirjala'' (without water) vrata throughout a day and night, is observed by mothers for the wellbeing of their children. A three-day-long festival is celebrated from seventh to ninth lunar day of Krishna-Paksha in Ashvin month. It is celebrated mainly in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh states of India and Nepal. In 2015, it would be observed on October 5.
