José Augusto Teixeira da Silva (born 24 February 1961) has been a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2008. Teixeira is the first Portuguese general authority in LDS Church history. ==Early life, education, career, and family== Teixeira was born in Vila Real, Portugal. The LDS Church was not organized in Portugal until 1974, 14 years after Teixeira was born. As a young man, Teixeira served as a missionary in the LDS Church's Portugal Lisbon Mission. He received a degree in accounting from Jaime Cortesao Technical School and a degree in business management from IAT-Technical Improvement Institute. Teixeira's career included employment as an international controller for the LDS Church in Frankfurt, Germany, where he oversaw church finances in Europe and Africa. He was the regional manager of the church's area office based in Portugal. Teixeira and his wife, Maria Filomena Lopes Teles Grilo, were married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1984 and they are the parents of three children.〔("Elder José A.
