KHQA-DT2
KHQA-DT2 is the ABC-affiliated television station for the Tri-States area of Western Illinois, Northeastern Missouri, and extreme Southeastern Iowa. Licensed to Hannibal, Missouri, it is a second digital subchannel of CBS affiliate KHQA. Both stations broadcast a high definition digital signal on VHF channel 7 from a transmitter northeast of Quincy, Illinois on Cannonball Road near I-172. Owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, they have studios on South 36th Street in Quincy. ==History== On August 28, 2007, KHQA announced that a new second digital subchannel would begin carrying ABC for the Tri-States. This was launched on September 30. Before then, the Tri-States had been one of the few areas of the country without its own ABC affiliate. NBC affiliate WGEM-TV had carried ABC programming in off-hours from 1953 to 1969, shared with KHQA for most of the 1960s. The area had its own ABC affiliate starting in 1969, WJJY-TV in Jacksonville, but it went off the air in 1971. WGEM-TV resumed carrying some ABC shows until the 1990s, though most of the market could get the full ABC schedule from KTVO in Kirksville, which provided at least grade B coverage of the entire market. On February 28, 2013, Barrington Broadcasting announced the sale of its entire group, including KHQA-TV, to Sinclair Broadcast Group. The sale was completed on November 25.〔http://www.sbgi.net/site_mgr/temp/Barrington%20Closes.pdf〕
