Kalgachia
Kalgachia ((アッサム語:কলগাছিয়া)) is a semi urban town of Barpeta district, Assam, India. It is west of district headquarters Barpeta. Kalgachia is a Muslim (East Bengal rooted Muslim) based town. The census of India shows that 98% of the population in Kalgachia are Muslim. The total population is 29,000 where 17,000 are male and 12,000 are female. == History == It is not clear, when the village is established but a few official document says that the village was established 16th century .Here, it is available large number of ''Kolgos'' (Banana tree) so the name has become Kalgachia (place where banana trees are found).Popular stories refers to the existence of an Assamese Hindu dominated period in the region, which popularised the name 'Kalitapara'〔(Kalgachia and Indian Muslim )〕
