Uncyclopedia

Uncyclopedia is a satirical website that parodies Wikipedia. Its logo, a hollow "puzzle potato", parodies Wikipedia's globe puzzle logo, and it styles itself "the content-free encyclopedia", which is a parody of Wikipedia's "the free encyclopedia". Originally founded in 2005 as an English-language wiki, the project currently spans over 75 languages. The English version has approximately 30,000 pages of content, second only to the Portuguese.
Various styles of humor are used as a vehicle for parody, from sophisticated satire to simple sarcasm, along with structured in-jokes and frequent ''non sequiturs.'' The site has attracted media attention for its articles on controversial subjects including religion, prominent people, places, politics, and pseudoscience.
Many Uncyclopedia articles contain graphics with a link to the corresponding Wikipedia article. A typical caption reads, "For those ''without'' comedic tastes, the so-called experts at Wikipedia have an article about (in question )."
== History ==

Uncyclopedia was launched on January 5, 2005, by Jonathan Huang, known online as "Chronarion," and a partner known online as "Stillwaters".〔
Foreign-language Uncyclopedia-like projects are described below. Some of these are independent domains. In 2007, 25% (or 20 out of 79) of the Uncyclopedia collection was hosted by Wikia. Six dedicated non-Wikia servers host "Uncyclopedia Babel" content in various languages. To coordinate these projects (collectively, the "Uncyclomedia Babel Project") an Un-Meta wiki was created in 2006.
Uncyclopedia had left Wikia in early 2013 to become independent, citing irreconcilable differences regarding the operation of the site by then-host Wikia, including broken promises, the change in URL and content warnings. Unlike Wikipedia which is managed by the Wikimedia Foundation, Uncyclopedia is run independently by members of the community. Although there are interlanguage links to other Uncyclopedia projects, there is no governing organization running Uncyclopedia globally akin to the Wikimedia Foundation and Wikipedia as well as its sister projects.
There are two known forks of the Uncyclopedia project, including one at Wikia which opened after the original site had left Wikia to become independent and another designed to be a mirror website.
