Kanihama
Kanihama, formerly known as Gund Kawarhama, is a village situated on the Srinagar-Gulmarg Road in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.Kanihama is famous for its Kani shawls which is one of the oldest handicraft of Kashmir. This craft has been a part of the valley since the time of Mughals. It is a piece of fabric woven by wooden sticks called "Kanies". The crafting of kani shawl is a very delicate process and takes almost a couple of years for completion of a single unit. The shawl can be crafted in different designs with a beautiful touch of multi colours and sizes. The kani shawl is mostly manufactured at a place in the valley which got its name resembling to kani shawl called Kanihama.Mr kanihama is the one of the most important and world famous personality of the kanihama village whose family is actually involved since1770 for upliftment of weavers of kanihama village and kanishawl craft ,Mr kanihama left the politics as an M L A and left no stone's unturned for the revival of ancient craft of kanishawl,He also framed a society of kanishawl weavers namely M/s Guli Anar kanishawl weavers industrial co operative society Kanihama,After his death in September 2001 his son sajad kanihama is running a kanishawl manufacturing unit and is also the secretary of the kanishawl weavers of kanihama,magam Kashmir
