Kankali The Kankali are a Muslim community found in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. They are also known as Kankal and Mangta.〔People of India Uttar Pradesh Volume XLII Part Two edited by A Hasan & J C Das pages 709 to 713 Manohar Publications〕 == Origin == The word ''kankali'' is said to be derived from the Hidi word ''kangal'', meaning a pauper. This is said to refer to the fact that the Kankali were once a community of professional beggars. They are found mainly in the districts of Bahraich, Basti, Gorakhpur and Gonda. The Kankali speak Awadhi among themselves and Hindi with outsiders.〔People of India Uttar Pradesh Volume XLII Part Two edited by A Hasan & J C Das pages 709 to 713 Manohar Publications〕
