After defeating Pillai, Marthanda Varma destroyed Kazhakuttom Pillai's palace. He also dug a pond in place of the palace. To redeem himself, he built a temple to Krishna nearby. Both the pond and the temple exist, even now. The Mahadeva Temple in Kazhakuttom is believed to be around 1000 years old.
