It is situated on a plain on the left bank of the Amu Darya river. ==Overview== Nearby towns and villages include Mukry (3.3 nm), Amyderya (2.1 nm), Surkhi (3.1 nm) and Kiikchi (2.2 nm).〔Falling rain gazetteer〕 The town is served by Atamurat airport located 2 miles (3 km) from the town centre. In August 2012, the state national company Turkmenistan Airlines has announced an international tender for the design and construction of a new complex with the capacity of 100 passengers per hour.
