Khadavli
Khadavli is a town in Thane district, Maharastra. It is also a station on the Mumbai Suburban Railway system on the Central Line route between Kalyan and Kasara. It is a beautiful place it has a river beside it. A new bridge has been built across the river (this is actually an over flow of the Batsa Dam) in 2008 because the old bridge submerges during heavy rains. The nearest market place from the station on the east is Pagda. Transportation to Padga includes sharing rickshaws and State Transportation buses. Khadavli is famous for Swami Samarth Mandir which is near Batsa River. A well known Guru Datta mandir is also present in khadavli. This temple is located in the interior and has a "Odumbar" tree in its premise. An old age home called Matoshri is present besides the river and on the way to Sorgoan. Vipassanna kendra is also run through this old age home premise. This place is very popular amongst youngsters, who come to this river during any time of the year for swimming. The river water flows continuously and is clean and clear.
Khadavli river can be visited by road or railways. The nearest village is called Sorgaon and is located between Khadavli river and Padgha. Young boys/males are a frequent visitor to this river. Along with it also comes fun and frolicking. On the day of rangpanchami the young boys and males visit the river for having bath.
The local villagers have approached court to get a stay order over the rampant construction in and around khadavli. The real estate growth has contributed in changing the face of Khadavli. It is affecting the eco-system and living of the locals. New buildings have cropped up, which is further straining and causing damage to the environment.This is one of the best treks during the monsoons.
The best time to visit Khadavli is Summer. During summer the river is alway full with people. However, visits during rainy season is also enjoyable, due to the greenery and the natural beauty. The water from the river flows into Pisa Dam in Titwala, from this dam the water is sent through huge pipelines to Mumbai.
