KiRaKa (Pronounced: /ˈkɪrɑkɑ/, an acronym formed from "KInderRAdioKAnal") is a German radio station based in Cologne. It is a digital speciality channel of WDR, catering to children between the ages of 5 and 16. KiRaKa broadcasts from 06.00 hours to 22.00 hours CET daily. It simulcasts with WDR 5 between 14:05 and 15:00 daily and also between 19:30 and 20:00 for the children's bedtime slot, Bärenbude (Bear's hut). Regular children's programming ceases at 20.00 hours, following which from Monday to Saturday, the station plays music aimed at the 11 to 16 age group in a segment called "Nachteule" (Night Owls). On Sundays, the station airs a repeat of its "KiRaKa Klassisch" strand, aiming classical music at children. At 22:00 hours, the station 1Live diGGi simulcasts over KiRaKa until it recommences broadcasting. ==Reception== Previously, KiRaKa was broadcast as a slot within WDR 5's daily service. On 29 May 2009, KiRaKa took over the services formerly used by WDR 2 Klassik. Today, the service is available across Germany via the Astra satellite network, Cable and DAB Radio. It is also available internationally via the Internet and WDR's radio applications for smartphones and tablets.
