Kiandieri is a small village found in Kenya, Central Province in the larger Kirinyaga County. It is also known as Kiandieri town. It consists of sub-areas like Ithanji, Kanjibi, Kiamariga, Kangunga, Kanjuki,kieni,gatomboya etc. Approximately 121.23;km away, from Nairobi it is under Kimandi administrative zone and in Kirinyaga Central constituency whose former MP is Kariuki Ngata, who was elected after controversial 2007 General Election 〔http://www.capitalfm.co.ke/news/Kenyanews/Appeals-court-upholds-Kirinyaga-petition.html〕 There is an impending By-Election in Kirinyaga Central in February 2011 as Mr Kariuki Ngata's term was terminated by the High Court of Kenya. During the ensuing by election in which mr Ngata kariuki did not contest, Mr Gachoki gitari was elected Mp and was re-elected in the general elections of 2013. He continues to serve. it is different from ''Kianderi'' which is in Murang'a County Its name can be traced back to precolonial times, when thousands of white birds with red/ pink beaks, called 'Ndieri' used to live and populate the area and predominantly around the grazing cattle from which they fed on ticks and mites, hence the name Kiandieri meaning 'The Place with Ndieri's'〔Kikuyu oral narrative〕 Economic work of the populace is largely small scale farming with majority of the people are the middle aged and young generation who are formally educated by both government schools found in the area as well as privately owned primary schools. There is currently one secondary school,Kiandieri Day Mixed Secondary School, which started in 1994, and Kiandieri Primary school which started during the colonial period. There is no technical or a polytechnic institutes in this village and students rely on other nearest town such as Kerugoya, Nyeri or Nairobi for further studies. It is also falling back on health as there is a dispensary built with funds from the CDF but since health is now a County Govt function, the dispensary lies in disuse.. in terms of other infrastructure: All roads leading to this village are either murramed (ones leading to the tea Collection centres ) or just unmotorable paths and hence they are impassable during the rainy season or very dusty during the hot season.〔kirinyaga central CDF committee/2009〕 Following the government policy of rural electrification, the place is well lit with reliable source of energy disseminating from one of the notable coffee threshing factory found in the area, to individual homes and in the market area. The economic activities in the area are largely controlled by the regular and reliable rainfall. These predominantly small scale tea farming and a scattering of coffee farms but coffee farming has greatly declined due to the falling returns from coffee. Dairy farming employing zero grazing is widespread as well as fruit and vegetable farming for domestic consumption and for sale. Macadamia nuts are also widely grown in the area though due to land fragmentation as a result of population growth, the acreage is slowly declining. also there is endeavors to produce hydro power station by the local community using the small but significant streams in the area, example is Kibae community power center (CPC), with Renewable Energy Source of 2KW Micro-hydro, 500W Solar〔http://193.138.105.50/index.php?id=o830800〕 which is about 2 km from the village itself.
