Kobong

Kobong ''soensanim'' (Korean: 고봉선사, Hanja: 高峯禪師, 1890–1962),〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://sweepingzen.com/zm-ko-bong-bio/ )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.nychogyesa.org/chogyesa_teachers_KoBong.html )〕 the 77th Patriarch in his teaching lineage, was a Korean Zen master.
==Biography==
At an early age, Kobong became a monk at Namjangsa.〔 Known for spontaneous and eccentric teaching,〔〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.oxherding.com/my_weblog/2009/04/korean-zen-ko-bong.html )〕 he sometimes said that he preferred to teach laypeople because monks were too lazy to practice hard.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.kwanumzen.org/1996/ko-bongs-try-mind/ )〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.musangsa.org/english/sub02/sub02_3.php )
Kobong never held a position at any temple or established a temple of his own.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.kwanumzen.org/1998/flower-valley-temple-the-story-of-hwa-gye-sah/ )〕 When he was elderly, his student Seungsahn brought him to Hwagyesa〔 in Seoul, South Korea where Kobong died at the temple in 1962.〔 A large granite monument was built in his honor on the hillside overlooking Hwagyesa.
