Traditionally the area was part of Lower Carniola and it is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Sava Statistical Region; until January 2014 the municipality was part of the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.〔(Litija municipal site )〕 ==Name== Kresnice was mentioned in written sources ca. 1261 as ''villa Grafnitz'' (and as ''ze Kräznicz'' in 1372, ''Cråzznicz'' in 1380, and ''Krasnicz'' in 1449).
