Lakkattoor is a village in Kooroppada panchayat, about 17 km east of Kottayam, Kerala. It is a remote place surrounded by hills and valleys. The nearest places are Kooroppada, Areepparambu, Manjamattam, Mattakkara, and Poothirikkal. Rubber cultivation is the main industry in the village. Lakkattoor residents generally belong to the Nair, Paraiyar, and Ezhava castes. The Nairs own approximately 90% of the land in this area. The poorest Lakkattoor residents, of the Paraiyar caste, live in a colony on the outskirts of the village. Lakkattoor's main temple is the (Siva Parvathy Temple ),〔http://www.namashivaya.org/〕 which is owned by the Nairs. Izhavas and other subcastes also participate in festivals there. Though Izhavas are a major group they do not have a temple dedicated to Sri Narayana Guru in Lakkattoor. There are also Cheramar Christian, Syrian Christian, and Orthodox Christian families are also living Many Protestant, Pentecost groups are working in this area. large part of the Paraya community follows Pentecostal way of life. Schools in or near the village: Lakkattoor Higher Secondary School (managed by NSS Karayogam, Lakkattor), a Cluny public school, cheppumpara is another school (CBSE) situated on the north end of Lakkattoor. In 2006, a teacher from the M.G.M.N.S.S.
