Schizostachyum
''Schizostachyum'' is a tall or shrub-like tropical genus of bamboo.〔(Nees von Esenbeck, Christian Gottfried Daniel. 1829. Flora Brasiliensis seu Enumeratio Plantarum 2(1): 535 ) in Latin〕〔(Tropicos, ''Schizostachyum'' Nees )〕 They are natives mostly of tropical Asia and Papuasia, with a few species in Madagascar and on certain islands in the Pacific.〔〔(Flora of China Vol. 22 Page 50 岭南竹属 si lao zhu shu ''Schizostachyum'' Nees in Martius et al. )〕 A few have become naturalized in other tropical regions.〔(Soreng, R. The genus name comes from Greek ''schistos'' ("cleft") and ''stachys'' ("spike"), referring to the spacing of spikelets.
These are clumping, and sometimes climbing bamboos.
