''G. sichuanense'' enjoys special veneration in East Asia, where it has been used as a medicinal mushroom in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 2,000 years,〔Jones, Kenneth (1990), ''Reishi: Ancient Herb for Modern Times'', Sylvan Press, p. 6.〕 making it one of the oldest mushrooms known to have been used medicinally. The Chinese term ''lingzhi'' was first recorded during the Eastern Han dynasty (25–220 CE).
