It lies within the historic boundaries of Radnorshire. ==Location and geography== Llanelwedd is located by the River Wye immediately to the north of Builth Wells. By road, it is the junction of the A470 (from Rhayader), the A483 (from Llandrindod Wells and Welshpool), and the A481 (from Worcester). As the larger town, Builth Wells dominates in the general perception of the area, and Llanelwedd can be perceived as part of the town rather than a separate village. A now dismantled railway line ran through the village generally following the Wye valley.
