It narrates the journey of the god Thor to Útgarða-Loki, a myth also preserved in Snorri Sturluson's 13th century ''Prose Edda'' part ''Gylfaginning''. Compared with the version in ''Gylfaginning'', the ''Lokrur'' version is often more detailed, with fleshed-out descriptions where ''Gylfaginning'' has an understated and terse text. The cycle consists of four ''rímur'', the first in ''stafhent'' and the rest in ''ferskeytt'' meter.
