Lowdham
Lowdham is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire between Nottingham and Southwell. It is in the Newark and Sherwood district, and at the 2001 census, had a population of 2,832. The dual carriageway to the north and Doncaster cuts the village in two. ==Origin of the name== Lowdham means "village by the loud stream", from Old English ''hlud'' "loud" and ''ham'' "village, homestead". The name was recorded as Lideheme in 1046, suggesting Old English ''hlid'' "slope" as the first element, with Old Norse ''heimr'' (as in Blenheim), cognate with Old English ''ham'' "homestead, village".
