Lubimbi

Lubimbi
are Thonga people from Tsonga ethnic group, mostly found in Southern Africa. Notable countries being South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique,Zambia,Democratic Republic of Congo,Malawi,Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
History
Lubimbi people originate from Central Africa and they arrived in Southern Africa 1000 years ago. Originally they belong to the Nyonyi clan, which is one of the five original clans in Central Africa. Population growth and land pressure led to population Migration and social conflicts which led to formation of smaller clans and Lubimbi are of the Mmamba totem which is symbolysed by a Lung Fish. They then migrated from present day Uganda with some settling in Kenya, Tanzania and democratic Republic of Congo down to Southern Africa. They came to South Africa as traders and settled in the Transvaal Province, Based in Pongola and Mhlabuyalingana area near Lebombo Mountains towards Swaziland. They were depleted due to family misunderstandings and uprisings,with some being absorbed into different tribes for protection.
Economy
Lubimbi traditional economy is based on mixed agriculture, with maize being the staple food. They were good axe makers and fishermen who also made canoes. Again they were great navigators on both land and lakes.
Culture
Lubimbi have strong acknowledgement of their ancestors, who are believed to have been strong traditional healers. Bemba the highest forefather was believed to be half human and half fish. Their traditional beliefs came under the influence of the Zulu's after they were conquered during Mfecane.
