MacAskill, also spelt Macaskill, is a surname. It is an Anglicisation of the Gaelic ''Mac Asgaill'', meaning "son of ''Asgall''". The Gaelic name ''Asgall'' is a reduced form of the Old Norse personal name ''Ásketill''.〔MacAskill (n.d.); McCaskill (n.d.).〕 The name is borne by a noted family on Skye, the MacAskills of Rubha an Dùnain, who historically followed the MacLeods of Dunvegan, possibly serving them as early as the fourteenth century (although documentation is lacking).〔Martin (2014).〕 In Gaelic the MacAskills are known as ''Clann t-Ascaill'',〔de Bhulbh (1997) p. 258.〕 and ''Clann t-Asgaill''.〔Black (1971) p. 454.〕 In Scottish Gaelic, the surname is rendered ''MacAsgaill''.〔Mark (2003) p. 720.〕 In Irish, the surname is rendered ''Mac Ascaill''.〔de Bhulbh (1997) p. 258.〕 Early forms of the name on record in Scotland are ''Mackaiscail'' (in 1766), ''Mackaiscal'' (in 1769), and ''Macaiskill'' (in 1790).〔Black (1971) p. 454.〕 An early form of the name in England is ''Mac Askil'' (in 1311).〔Reaney; Wilson (1995) p. 290.〕 ==People== *Angus MacAskill (1825-1863), known as the world's largest "true" giant *Danny MacAskill, a stunt cyclist *Dianne Macaskill, Chief Executive and Chief Archivist of Archives New Zealand *Glenn Macaskill, an author currently living in South Africa *Ishbel MacAskill (1941-2011), Gaelic singer *Kenny MacAskill (born 1958), a Scottish National Party politician *Klara MacAskill (born 1964), a Hungarian born Canadian sprint canoer 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「MacAskill」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
