Magasang was created as a barangay on June 16, 1956 by virtue of REPUBLIC ACT NO. 1543. ==Profile== Barangay Magasang is one of the seventeen Barangays of the Municipality of Cantilan, Surigao del Sur. It has a total population of 1,207 according to the National Statistics Coordination Board (NSCB) as of May 1, 2010. It has two Sitios namely Sitio Suyatan near the boundary of Brgy.Tigabong and Sitio Malingin in Brgy.Pag-antayan. Other familiar places such as Benoni, the old dumpsite of Cantilan near the boundary of Carrascal, the Ina Poon Bato Shrine and the Abacahan bridge are also found here. Nearly 20% of its land area are covered by nipa palms and mangroves where Magasang's famous Bino (nipa rum), Tipono, Tyaba and Alimango are found. Magasang's Sitio Suyatan has a vast area of rice land. But unfortunately, people here are struggling to harvest rice only once a year due to problem on its irrigation system. Barangay fiesta is celebrated here every 17 May in honor of its patron Saint Isidore Labrador. A three-day celebration were highlighted with a parlor games, basketball and volleyball games, cockfighting and a disco or bayle at night. It was believed that the term BAG-ID night had originated here. On the night of May 18 or the day after fiesta, it is a tradition here where every Barangay folks along with their families come together, bringing some food stuffs and drinks.
