Mahtam The Punjabi rajput are a clan found among the Punjabis of India and Pakistan. They practice Hindu, Sikh and Muslim religions. During British rule in India, they were stigmatized under the Criminal Tribes Act 1871.〔(Punjab - Police and Jails ) ''The Imperial Gazetteer of India'', 1908, v. 20, ''p. 363.''〕 The term Punjabi rajput is now used only for the Hindu and Muslim branches of the tribe, while the Sikh branch is now known as Rai Sikhs.〔People of India Punjab Volume XXXVII edited by I.J.S Bansal and Swaran Singh pages 367 to 372 Manohar〕 ==References==
