Mallakottai
Mallakottai ((タミル語: மல்லாகோட்டை)) is the name of a panchayat village in Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu state in South India. It is a constituent of the ancient "MayilrayanKottai Nadu" ((タミル語:மயில்ராயன்கோட்டை நாடு)) once, which was a part of 'Sivagangai Seemai'((タミル語:சிவகங்கை சீமை)). The name of 'MayilrayanKottai Nadu' is the one which was later subsumed to 'Mallakottai'.〔http://www.tnrd.gov.in/databases/Villages.pdf〕 == The place and people == Mallakottai situated in the northern part of Sivaganga district in Tamil Nadu. It's cultural heritage goes back many years and the village has been known as one of the important commercial center's among the nearest villages now. Some of the villages that are surrounded Mallakottai are Jeyangondanilai, Vadavanpatti, Mampatti, Erumaipatti, Eriyur, and Kattanipatti. The principal occupation of villagers is farming. One of the popular and historical temple that is located in center of the village is "Sri Santhiveeran Temple". The presiding deity of this temple is Santhiveeran. Eruthugattu is a major villagers festival and many legends are associated with it. It is surmised the festival dates back to the period before written history. Eruthugattu is very enthusiastically celebrated for thirty continuous days and each day has its significance with a number of myths, legends and beliefs.
