Mallemin The mallemin (also maalemine, muallemin etc.; derived from a plural of the Arabic word ''mu`allim'', meaning approximately "sir" or "teacher") were a professional caste of blacksmiths and metalworkers within Hassaniya Arab society, Mauritania, southern Morocco and Western Sahara and .
