Malteze

Malteze were an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, USA. The band was formed in 1985 by lead singer and pianist Barbara Maltese and producer John Pillay. They put together a line up of David Williams on guitar, Bryant Simpson on bass and Steve Swartout on drums, and recorded an LP, “We Came 2 Rock” which was completed in 1987. Two years later band recorded single album "Raise Your Voices" with two songs on it: Raise Your Voices and Rain. Malteze recorded just one album, "Count Your Blessings" in 1990 with a completely new line up, except Barbara, band now have two guitarists Masami Fujimaki and Steve Cenker, Kris Marxx on bass and Mike Voss on Drums.
==History==
Barbara's family is from the island of Malta, it only made sense to come up with a logo which incorporated the Maltese cross. Band name was Barbara's idea too, she didn't want to use full name. Members talked about using Barbara's last name, but with a "Z" to make it look stronger.
Barbara Maltese grew up in New York State, and after high school, Barbara went to Berklee College of Music in Boston for a couple of semesters. She learned how to do orchestrations and arranging. She originally went there to study to be a music teacher and she had played piano. Barbara was one of the only pianists in school. They never let her sing! When she went to college, Barbara had a chance to really dig in and see if she could sing.
When Barbara run out of money for college, she stayed in Boston, worked as a waitress and got into a hard rock cover band for a while, called Time Square. After that band fell apart, Barbara went back home to upstate New York, got into another band, Shiver and she worked as an intern at a recording studio. John Pillay called Barbara, and asked her to record some songs for him in California and Barbara moved out to L.A. to pursue singing career.
