Manalmedu is a panchayat town in Nagapattinam district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Manalmedu has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 66%. The ancient name was called "Naganathapuram" by the name of Lord shiva temple shri.Naganatha swami' (naga means snake).The temple was believed to worshipped by the 'doumiya' rishi the guru of pandavas during their exile life. The village "puthamangalam", birth place of the famous Tamil writer, freedom fighter and pioneering journalist Kalki Krishnamurthy, is near this panchayat. Manalmedu is largely Hindu, Vanniyars & SCs being the dominant Hindu community.
