Maniace (Sicilian: ''Maniaci'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, located about east of Palermo and about northwest of Catania. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 3,606 and an area of .〔All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat.〕 The municipality bears the name of George Maniakes ((ギリシア語:Γεώργιος Μανιάκης); (イタリア語:Giorgio Maniace)), a prominent general of the 11th century and catepan of Italy, known for his victories against the Arabs in Sicily.
