Meliandou Meliandou is a village in Guéckédou Prefecture, in the Nzérékoré Region of southern Guinea. Medical researchers believe that it was the location of the first known case of Ebola virus disease in the 2014 West Africa Ebola virus outbreak.〔 The patient zero of the disease was a 2-year-old boy called Emile Ouamouno who died 28 December 2013. His pregnant mother Sia, his 3-year-old sister Philomène, and his grandmother Koumba then became ill with symptoms consistent with Ebola infection and died. People infected by those victims then spread the disease to other villages. Prior to the Ebola outbreak, the villagers sold their farm produce to the nearby town of Guéckédou. , they found themselves unable to sell their products anymore.〔 == References ==
