Modulatrix
''Modulatrix'' is a genus of bird endemic to the mountains of south eastern Africa. The genus is something of a taxonomic enigma. It has been placed with the Old World babblers and the Old World flycatchers. Recent molecular studies have suggested that the species is part of a clade that previously included the sugarbirds,〔Beresford, P.; Barker, F.K.; Ryan, P.G. & Crowe, T.M. (2005): African endemics span the tree of songbirds (Passeri): molecular systematics of several evolutionary 'enigmas'. ''Proc. Roy. Soc. Lond. B'' 272(1565): 849–858. PMID 15888418 (PDF fulltext ) (Electronic appendix )〕 but is better placed in a separate family. The genus now is usually considered monotypic containing the species spot-throat (''Modulatrix stictigula''), with the dapple-throat usually now treated as belonging to a separate genus, ''Arcanator''. ==References==
