Molinella is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Bologna in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about northeast of Bologna. As of 31 August 2008, it had a population of 15,542 and an area of .〔( Source )〕 The municipality of Molinella contains the ''frazioni'' (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Marmorta, S.Martino in Argine, S.Pietro Capofiume, and Selva Malvezzi. Molinella borders the following municipalities: Argenta, Baricella, Budrio, Medicina. ==Location== Molinella is situated in a rural area on the old ''San Donato Road'' (which in the past connected Bologna with Argenta and its port on the Po di Primaro). The municipality is crossed on the northern side by the Reno River and it is sourrounded by several marshes and canals.
