Moriyama-juku : ウィキペディア英語版 | Moriyama-juku
was the sixty-seventh of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō. It is located in the present-day city of Moriyama, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. ==History== This area received its name, which means "protector of mountain," from its placement at the eastern gate of Enryaku-ji on Mount Hiei.〔(Moriyama-juku ). Edo Rekishi Kairou Suishinkyou Gikai. Accessed July 20, 2007.〕 Essentially, the area is supposed to "protect the mountain." It originally flourished as the first place of lodging along the Nakasendō, but it continued to flourish as other post towns were added. In 1843, the post station had 1,700 residents and 415 buildings. Among the buildings, there were two ''honjin'', one sub-''honjin'', and 30 ''hatago''.
