Murtaza (also spelled Mortaza or Morteza) ((ペルシア語:مرتضى), (アラビア語:مرتضى)) is a common Persian name, is a variant transcription of Murtadha, meaning ''"chosen"''.〔("Behind the name", ''The Etymology and History of First Names'' )〕 It is an Islamic name that dates back to the time of Islamic prophet Muhammad.
