Myrkinos Myrkinos () was an ancient Greek city located in Thrace, in the region between the Strymon and the Nestos Rivers. It was within the territory of the Edonians, a Thracian tribe,〔An Inventory of Archaic and Classical Poleis: An Investigation Conducted by The Copenhagen Polis Centre for the Danish National Research Foundation by Mogens Herman Hansen, 2005, page 782, "The Thasians are said to have colonised the Hedonian city of Myrkinos, Galepsos and Oisyme"〕 and was founded as a polis by colonists from Miletus in 497 BC.〔An Inventory of Archaic and Classical Poleis: An Investigation Conducted by The Copenhagen Polis Centre for the Danish National Research Foundation by Mogens Herman Hansen, 2005, page 1393〕 The colonists were led by Histiaios〔The Landmark Herodotus: The Histories by Robert B. Strassler, 2009, page 913〕 (already a Tyrant of Miletus), whom Darius had allowed to build a city in reward for his help.
