Nimbalkar
The Nimbalkar is a Maratha clan, which derives its surname from the forest of Nimbalak in Phaltan taluka, Satara district, Maharashtra, India. Some Nimbalkars served as head of the deshmukhs (''sardeshmukhs'' or ''sardars'') during the period of the Mughal empire. ==Affiliations== The main ancestral city of the Nimbalkar is Phaltan, though they are also found in other regions Marathas inhabit.〔(The golden book of India: a genealogical and biographical dictionary ). Sir Roper Lethbridge〕 The clan is linked to other clans prominent in Maratha history: Emperor Shivaji's first wife Maharani Saibai was from the Nimbalkar dynasty. Deepaabai, the wife of Maloji Bhosale (Shivaji's grandfather) was also from a Nimbalkar family.
