Offcutts

Offcutts is a group of Melbourne based musicians. The group is influenced by a wide range of genres including the likes of The Beatles, Prince, James Brown, Daft Punk, and Mötley Crüe. Their music has had high rotation on Triple J.
==History==
Having emerged as the "offcuts" of another project, Offcutts debuted in 2002 as a three-piece combining elements of hip hop and beat poetry on the release of their debut EP ''Homestyles''.
Added to high rotation on Triple J the lead single 'Hips' was classified an underground hit in Australia and quickly followed with the cross over dance hit 'Everybody's Getting Back To The Music'.
Not satisfied though with the continued support from radio and a healthy growing audience, Offcutts made another genre shift and came back with their most successful pop single to date 'Break It Down (James Brown)' off the ''Paper and Plastic Bag'' collection. From this release the band received international recognition, chosen as the theme music behind Sony PlayStation games and included in a major ad campaign screening during the American Super Bowl. 'Break It Down (James Brown)' was selected for inclusion on the 2003 Triple J Hottest 100 compilation.
In late 2004 Offcutts returned to the studio to work on their debut album, but in the meantime shared with their true fans a taste of what was to come through the release of ''The Singles Society''. Including advance versions and rare collectables, ''The Singles Society'' spanned a six month set of releases in 2005 and pricked the ear of radio once more with ''The Lake'', critically acclaimed in the press as "the best song in the history of the universe."
Offcutts decided to strip it all back for their full length offering - ''What Happened Don't Lie''. The lead single 'Stand Back' and the subsequent 'Cold Morning Happiness' were quickly added to Triple J and tracks from the album have been chosen to feature as the soundtrack in a major film (starring Juliette Lewis and Donald Sutherland).
The band split in late 2008.〔http://www.myspace.com/tommyspender〕
