It lies on the A2031 road 1.6 miles (2.5 km) northwest of the town centre. Today, the area is a residential suburb of Worthing. Offington was part of the parish of Broadwater and became part of the borough of Worthing in 1902. The name 'Offa' would have been relatively common in the Saxon era and there is no evidence to suggest that the name is derived from King Offa of Mercia, although it is possible that Offa took control over the Kingdom of Sussex in the eighth century.
