The Oktagon was first founded in 1990 as Kickboxingmania. == History ==
Oktagon grow out of a series of combat sports mostly held in Italy since 1989. Kickboxing Mania, based in Italy and broadcast internationally, is considered the "father" of Oktagon. Oktagon was created in 1996 by promoter Carlo Blasi and a couple of friends. At the time of Oktagon's founding, Carlo Blasi was the president of the federation FENASCO, and he is currently the president of Fight1, a leading organization in the field of "Fight sports". "Fight Sports" brought attention to athletes like Giorgio Petrosyan and his brother, Armen Petrosyan. The first event was held in Milan in 1996, as a free fight tournament, which was a primitive version of MMA with boxing gloves. Britain's Lee Hasdell won the tournament and defeated in the American series Scott Dobbs student of Dan Inosanto, the athlete Italian Paolo Di Clemente and in the final, the Dutchman Andre Mannaart.
Oktagon, initially called KickBoxingmania, is held under the auspices of the Sports Federation Fight1 and was broadcast from Italy One for twenty years. Paul Biotti was among the protagonists of the events and later became Marketing and Television Director of Oktagon.
Oktagon has included notable athletes such as Giorgio Petrosyan, Sak Kaoponlek, Andy Souwer, Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, Artur Kyshenko, Pedro Rizzo, Valentijn Overeem, Dzhabar Askerov, Cosmo Alexandre, Karapet Karapetyan, Rico Verhoeven, Artem Levin, Sahak Parparyan, Davit Kiria, Murthel Groenhart, Armen Petrosyan, Pavel Zhuravlev, and Paul Daley.
