Ostrogozhsk ((ロシア語:Острого́жск)) is a town and the administrative center in Ostrogozhsky District of Voronezh Oblast, Russia, located on the Tikhaya Sosna River (Don's tributary), south of Voronezh, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: ==History==
Ostrogozsk is the historical center of Eastern Sloboda Ukraine. It was established in 1652 by Ukrainian Cossacks (Chernigiv and Nizhyn regiments) as a fortress Ostrog. Than it granted a town status in 1765, and all families of kossak regiments were settled in that town. In 1917-1919 town controls by Ukrainian Republic and the Hetmanate and government - more than 90% citizens was Ukrainians. Since 1920 Ostrogozsk belonged to Soviet Russia and obtained a regional center status of Voronezh oblast' in 1928. It was occupied by Germany during World War II from July 5, 1942 to January 20, 1943.
