Pangili

Pangili is a tiny and remote village in Rapur Taluk of Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh in India.
== Geography & History==
Originally called Turra vari Palayam (Palem). Turavaru is the name of a family which owes its origin to the patronage of the court of Golkonda, close to Hyderabad. Chinna Gangama Naidu was the first poligar (Who are originally responsible for the Administration hereditarily), having obtained the office of poligar of Rapur. It also would appear that at the request of the Karanams and inhabitants of Rapur Taluk who were suffering from the frequent devastations committed by a wild race called Boyavandlu and Chenchus inhabited in Veligonda Hills, the Nizam of Hyderabad appointed one Turra Lingama Naidu to be achu kavalgir(Who are originally responsible for the Administration hereditarily) for 88 circar and shotrium villages in Rapur Taluk and Sydapuram Jamindari and allotted him Lands and Russums(The customary fee paid by the Ryots to the village Officers). There was also a Family who lived lastly in the Village (around 1959)by name Turra Yallaiah and His mother Turra Siddamma in the Village attached to Duggineti Venkataiah's House. By the 18th Century the British renamed it to Pangili, doing so in part because it is "cutting edge" to Nellore District, and in part due to difficulty pronouncing the original name. The village is located 3 miles from Rapur, at the foot of Veligonda, on the west and North side of the State highway that leads to Cuddapah District and passes through Rapur Kanumalu. Pangili is surrounded by Hills on three sides: On the West: Veligonda; on the East: Kakulakonda, the location of the Tomb of Masum Sahib (a Mahammadan saint); on the north North: Dadikonda. On the South side, the Yeti Vagu flows from Veligonda to the Bay of Bengal, but only during the rainy season.
Pangili is a Panchayat having 3 villages -- Pangili Diguva, Madduru palli, and Kalujugunta—in its jurisdiction.
